I have my own private studio in The Nicholas Building, 37 Swanston Street, on the corner of Swanson Street and Flinders Lane.
Simply enter the lifts in the Cathedral Arcade, press level 4, and follow my signs to 410. No need to knock, come on in , and you’ll feel at home straight away.
Due to the nature of my work being one on one, I don’t take appointments by phone call. Not only does is it make it easier, but it ensures no interruptions during your own appointment.
Booking an be made online using Timely (home page), Instagram DM, emailing hello@nicmiller.hair, or sending a text to the salon phone, 0434 186 157. There’s only one of me, and if i haven't responded it generally means I’m currently with a client, but I tend to be as prompt as I can. But do nag after 24 hours. Some nights I finish quite late and don’t want to disturb you either.
We can always schedule a phone or in salon consultation if this method of communication works best for you.
You may have noticed on my service menu, there seems to be a few options to choose from. I charge my haircuts by time taken, and the service rather than gender, as it is 2024!
My hair cutting approach is both wet and dry and tailored to the individual’s hair. However most dry cuts require a wash and finish. If your hair doesn’t already fall into the length category (Like you’re going from long to short) it will be a restyle to allow us the extra time needed to perfect the initial change, then subsequent cuts will be booked at that length.
Restyle Haircut, Finish, and Styling Lesson- This is for those wanting a big change. Plenty of time to collaborate on what suits your lifestyle, and what styling may be needed. And the added time needed to design a new shape, and a thorough styling lesson.
Wash, Cut and Finish, Short- I classify short hair as -4 inches or so, proper short. Def above shoulders. My hair is short. Includes finish and heat styling if necessary.
Wash , Cut and Finish, Long or bob- Due to the precise nature of a bob, I need a full hour to give you my best. If I don‘t use the hour, you’ll be charged short, as with subsequent haircuts. Long hair is from shoulders to shoulder blade, or bra strap if one was wearing one. Includes heat styling, such as a wave or however you feel.
Wash, Cut, and Finish, Extra Long/Thick- We know who we are, some of us are just blessed with more hair, and adding this service saves you warning me I’ll need more time! Includes heat styling, and a nice non rushed experience. NEVER apologise for the thickness, length, or texture of your hair, you don’t deserve to feel like an annoyance.
Fringe Trim- In between haircut fringe trim or neck line tidy up. Complementary maintenance for my regulars. Best to SMS for these, I sneak you in sooner this way.
Like most sole traders and small businesses, I’ve unfortunately had to enforce a cancellation policy.
Any services over $100 will incur a $50 deposit attached to that service. A reminder email is sent 48 hours before booking, and gives you up to 24 hours to make any changes or cancellations penalty free. I can refund your deposit upon request, otherwise it will remain attached if you move your appointment. You can do this by logging into your account, or by simply messaging me within the timeframe.
An SMS reminder is sent 24 hours beforehand. I’m afraid after this point, no changes can be made, and your deposit will be lost. If I can manage to fill your spot with my waitlist or socials at such late notice, I will refund your deposit.
Also, compassion and health come first. I am empathetic and don’t want you dragging yourself in unwell due to losing a deposit. Talk to me, I don’t want to get sick either, and we will try to find another time when you are well.
Step One: Book a colour consult, where we can sit down together, play with swatches, possibly test sample strands to ensure achieveability and go from there. Feel free to bring reference photos, they’re a great start. I see your hair colour as a piece of clothing you can’t take off for a while, so we need to love it. It’s fine not to know what you want, that where it’s my job to help.. even bring clothes or textiles that inspire you.
Also, if I had a car and was taking it for a service I would have no idea explaining what I needed in mechanical terms. Unless you’re a qualified hairdresser, I don’t expect that of you, the best consults come from us both using common language and no special terms. There is no such question as a silly question in my space.
There are always plenty of lower and higher maintenance options, and I love being able to work with you to find the best shade for you. if you’re time poor, we can always send pics back and forth over email or SMS. Never feel awkward asking for a quote.
I do, embracing natural grey hair when ready is a beautiful process. I have several methods to help the right candidates achieve it in one session, sometimes two, with minimal follow up . One of my processes involves an all day session, the other two half day sessions, and I tend to need an otherwise empty salon, so these are done on particular days during the month I have reserved for these transformations so you have my undivided attention.
I also use these days/half days for some tricky colour corrective services, first time scalp bleaches, and other unique situations where timing can be challenging to predict. Due to the length of these sessions, to make sure it’s feasible, and to be realistic with your results, an in salon consult will be needed, and a 50% deposit will be needed to be left to secure the appointment. I price my services differently on these days, by the hour and product, so it often feels like a fairer approach to me to the client.
Generally not. I’m a one woman show, and often booked in advance… particularly for longer colour services. But no harm in popping up just in case, and making an appointment.
The Nicholas Building has recently been fitted with NBN broadband, to which I have upgraded and have great speed and connectivity for those who wish to work.
I’ve a processing table so you can spread out and make the space yours. Over the year its seen laptops, knitting, incredible drawing, pattern cutting, Cards Against Humanity, and laughs.
I have a selection of herbal tea and coffee. I have vegan and gluten free snacks, which whilst sound boring I can confirm they’re moreish. I have a growing collection of books and magazines.
If you’ve sensory needs and prefer a silent appointment, softer music, or there is anything else I can do to accommodate your needs please reach out or have someone do so on your behalf.
The Nicholas Building is equipped with both ambulant and gender neutral bathrooms on the lower floors.
